Out in the Channel Country, emus are known for two things — covering a lot of ground and minding everyone else’s business.
This one has been wandering the plains, leaving a trail of three-toed tracks pressed into the red earth. But somewhere along the way, curiosity got the better of it. Pausing mid-journey, the emu turns back to take a proper look at who’s been following its tracks.
The patterned footprints circling the painting echo the pathways animals quietly carve across the landscape every day. But the expression says something else entirely — a moment of personality, as if the bird is wondering whether you’re interesting enough to keep watching.
